Potato Play Raises $5M To Scale Casual Puzzle Game Merge Restaurant

Potato Play announced today that it has raised a new $5M round from investors including Everblue Management, Play Ventures, Atlas Ventures and Beenext in addition to the $2.25M it had raised in two previous rounds. The Singapore-based startup also announced that it will be globally launching its casual puzzle game, Merge Restaurant (iOS, Android), on February 24th, 2022.

Merge Restaurant is a new entry into the fast-growing casual merge genre. Cited by industry experts as “the new Match3” and “arguably the hottest subgenre”, the merge category is growing 19% YoY within the $93.2b mobile gaming market. Henric Suuronen, Founding Partner of Play Ventures concurs: “In the past year the casual merge market has continued to grow both in size and importance. The experienced team at Potato Play has captured the emerging merge puzzle segment with a very high quality and innovative game with excellent metrics. We at Play are incredibly excited to support the scaling up of the game.”
Merge Restaurant is a restaurant-makeover merge title that adds a unique simulation aspect to differentiate it from other merge games in the market. Merge Restaurant has ratings of 4.8 stars in select test markets and will be available globally on the App Store and the Play Store starting 24th February.
The company plans to use the funds to grow aggressively and to scale Merge Restaurant. "Right now our focus is on scaling the team by hiring, and scaling the game by iteratively improving the ROI," according to co-founder & COO Kingsley. "We're hiring Game Designers, Producers, Artists and Marketers, both in Singapore as well as remotely."
